Tuesday – DJ Kuta – Clubland

Today Jay is joined by DJ Kuta aka Mike Lewis from N-Trance and will be exploring the Clubland brand

Clubland is a a hugely successful dance music brand that has seen a string of number one compilation albums, it’s own TV music channel, massive arena tours and club nights that have taken over some of the biggest clubs in Europe such as BCM, Es Paradis and Eden.

Clubland was born at AATW records in Blackburn and primarily draws it’s roots from the Rave scene and bands in the North West.
It’s music has always been less laid back and more ‘hands in the air’ with the sort of tunes you can sing along to and work up a sweat on the dance floor,
the speed of Clubland tracks has traditionally been 140bpm upwards towards the 165bpm mark used by the hardcore artists.
In recent years AATW have teamed up with Universal music and the brand has now seen a huge influx of commercial house type artists from abroad as well as the UK.
N-Trance were one of AATW’s early successes and helped pave the way for Clubland, as a member of the band DJ Kuta had first hand experience of the musical influences from the very beginning,

Mike Lewis (DJ Kuta) has been on the decks since 1984 and was playing house music from it’s Birth which is why the show embraces house, bounce, hardcore and Old Skool.

During the mix you’ll be able to hear tracks such as:

    SL2 – on a Ragga tip
    N-trance – Set you free
    Ultrabeat – Pretty green eyes
    Herd & Fitz - I Just Can’t Get Enough

The tracks in the mix are from the Clubland brand and also reflect the influences from over the years.

You can catch Clubland with DJ Kuta warming you up for your  Saturday night out 5-7PM

Unity Radio 92.8FM is Bass Music with Heavy Feet2nd-May / 2013

Unity Radio 92.8FM is Bass Music with Heavy Feet

All this week Unity Radio 92.8FM is Bass Music.

Tune in for Magnificent Mornings with Jay Diamond from 10 as we take listeners on a rollercoaster ride of electronic bass frequencies and bone-shaking bass lines with Unity Radio’s bass music DJs.

Today Jay is joined by HeavyFeet and will be exploring bass music today.

Bass music today is pretty much a catch all term for any style of music with an emphasis placed on the bassline, and ranges from house and garage to dubstep and grime, with plenty more in between. Whilst its roots lie in styles of music developed 20 years ago or more, over the past 6 to 7 years it has moved forward massively as genre boundaries have been broken down and people have been opened up to increasingly more styles of music. The key to the majority of bass music tends to be bringing a fresh approach to the way the lower frequencies work within a particular genre. A major visionary in the early years, Armad Van Helden was one of the first producers to begin moulding styles of dance music to create something new – taking the sub heavy or ‘Reese’ bass lines of drum & bass and placing them underneath house beats, Switch came along in the mid-2000s and rewrote the rulebook when it came to house music and what was acceptable, and this is a trend continued by the likes of Zinc & Redlight today, both who have shifted their focus from drum & bass and brought a very different approach to making house and electro resulting in some truly original output.

During the mix you’ll be able to hear tracks such as:

    Julio Bashmore – Au Seve

Breakage feat. Newham Generals – Hard

Sneaker Pimps – Spin Spin Sugar (Armand Van Helden Remix)

Jessie Ware – Running (Disclosure Remix)

All the above go to show the true diversity of bass music and the many forms it can take. They are all included in the mix because of the groundbreaking aspect of each track, the importance of the role of the bassline within the tune, and the fact each one of them make people go crazy in the club…

You can catch HeavyFeet kick-starting your weekend each and every Friday between 4pm and 7pm, playing brand new house, garage, bass and more as we search for future anthems on Unity Radio.

Unity Radio 92.8FM is Bass Music with Subz!1st-May / 2013

Unity Radio 92.8FM is Bass Music with Subz!

All this week, Unity Radio 92.8FM is Bass Music.

Tune in for magnificent mornings with Jay Diamond, from 10, as we take listeners  on a roller coaster ride of electronic bass frequencies and bone shaking bass lines with Unity Radio’s Bass music DJ’s.

Today Jay is joined by  DJ Pyper and will be exploring Bassline music.

    Micro-History

Bassline comes from the genre of music know as 4×4 or Speed Garage and club Niche in Sheffield was the original club from which ‘Bassline’ orientated from.

Originally known as the Pretoria Works home of Edley Bros cutlers, the Niche opened in about 1992, in response to the burgeoning underground rave scene. After 3 years of battling with the police the niche began to comply with relevant legislation finally making the premises legal.

The Niche had a very chequered history, it’s soaring popularity was constantly undermined by problems relating to drugs and violence, the violence predominantly a result of dealers turf wars.

The Niches’ claim to fame is as the birth place of bassline,‘a type of music related to UK garage that originated from speed garage, and shares characteristics with fellow sub genres dubstep and grime for their emphasis on bass. The style originated in Sheffield around 2002.’

The Niche was closed on November 27, 2005,following a police raid named “Operation Repatriation”, where over 300 police officers raided the club, however no one was arrested. The police had expressed fears that the club attracted violence, gang culture and crime, mainly from outside of Sheffield.

The owner opened the premises up so that loyal clientele could take souvenirs, which might explain why there is not a lot left inside.

Some big DJs from the 2005 and upwards period were Jamie Duggan, Shaun ‘Banger’ Scott, Nev Wright, Jamie Ferguson, FB  & Zibba just to name a few.

    Own influences

My influences came from 2007 upwards as this is when I first discovered Bassline music.

DJs and Producers such as DJ Q, DJ Snypez, T2, TS7, TRC, Witty Boy & Nasty Boy, DJ Booda, DJ Veteran, Virgo and many more all played a big part influencing me to produce bassline music. Since then I have been DJ’ing for over 7 years and Producing music for over 6 years working with lots of Artists such as I.Deal,Sacha,Burga Boy,TRC,Piddy Py etc…

I won the award for best up & coming producer in the Bassline Choice Awards in 2007 and worked with labels such as 7 Wonders, Ministry of Sound and many more!

3 Key Tracks in the Mix

T2 feat Sharnell and Denica – Why

Massive influence on myself getting into producing music.

Catchy vocals and a his unique style on bassline made him stand out.

DJ Veteran vs Zibba – Musical Rush

One of the best Vinyl records I have ever bought! Massive influence for myself.

Subzero Feat Sacha – Be With Me

This track I believe got my name on the map in the Bassline scene. Also one of my favourites.

    Current work.

I am currently DJing alongside Pypz every Sunday 7-9pm playing Deep, Tech & Underground House music.
